About Us
"The Wig Shop In Downtown"
Our shop was founded in 1972 by immigrant husband-and-wife team Michael and Connie. What began as a small storefront in an aging brick building in downtown Tampa, Florida where products were sold straight out of cardboard boxes, grew into a full-service wig salon that eventually took over two storefronts at the corner of Cass and Franklin Streets.
Our boutique thrived over the decades even as downtown declined. Major retailers like Woolworth's and Maas Brothers and small businesses alike closed their doors, but our shop survived. We were an oddity, such that the Tampa Tribune even ran a double-page feature on us, celebrating our longevity and resilience.
Paramount Wigs served everyone: grandmothers, chemo patients, drag queens, news anchors, Buccaneers cheerleaders, and even local theater productions at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. If someone said “the wig shop in downtown,” they meant us!
In 2021, the two-story building that housed our boutique was sold to a developer. For many of our longtime customers, it was a deeply felt loss. But for Michael and Connie, they welcomed the change as a chance to start a new chapter, closer to their only grandchildren in Los Angeles. Ready for a new adventure, they moved their lives to southern California and took the business fully online in order to help transition to retirement.
Now, the shop is in the hands of the next generation, and we are lovingly continuing Paramount Wigs' journey in LA!
To those who remember Michael walking you to your car, Connie trimming your bangs to perfection, Grandma sitting in her gray chair, little Michelle ringing up your purchase, or Drew opening the gates, thank you for the memories and your loyalty. And to those just joining us, welcome! We’re honored to be your go-to wig boutique!
